Like a cloud, or a dream…an idea seeps in...

Sometimes I see a complete image, but the making is an intuitive process that evolves over time.

Assembling whatever objects are at hand, adding iridescent glass and light, my work can be intricate and layered, yet raw and zen-like in its simplicity.

Inspired by the artistry of Nature all around: the rippling trills and redgold flashing of the redwings' return in early spring, the silvery windings of the acequia sparkling down the edge of our valley. Or the whispering breezes gusting to a crescendo across the tops of the ponderosas, the haunting liquid notes of a hermit thrush…a vividly shifting vermilion violet twilight, and the breath-taking vastness of the Milky Way spilling across the starlit sky.

By the eternal yet wildly changing cycles of Nature, interacting with the deep peacefulness of the land, I am urged to capture and reveal these lingering moments of ethereal beauty, tempered by wabi-sabi, the Japanese worldview centered on the acceptance, and appreciation, of all being transient and imperfect.

Working this way feels like bagging a shimmering cloud as it moves across the sky.
